What is Hypertrophy Max?

Obviously, when the Ben and Vince first told me about their system, I was SUPER excited. BUT, of course, my next question was: Guys, how much are you charging for this?

Because at the end of the day, just to hire an average trainer that does not have even 10% of the knowledge that you will get here (and I say this with confidence as I have traveled the whole world doing seminars to trainers) you are looking to pay at least $75 per 1-hr session. At 3 sessions per week of average workouts you will pay $225 per week or $900 per month!   3. It seems that defining a goal is essential to progress since one cannot gain considerable mass and lose considerable fat at the same time. Picking a goal seems very hard though: on one hand, for example, I don’t feel lean enough to go for more mass (I have a 4 pack, not a 6 pack). On the other hand, I have body parts that are lagging and I feel I need to gain mass to bring those parts to par. Which goal should I pick or, more generally, how does one decide when it’s time to gain mass and when it’s time to lose fat? Thank you!

    • Hi Franco,

      Yes, you need to pick a main goal and my rule is that if you are above 10% body fat you need to lose fat first. Why? Because the best muscle mass gains come when you are below 10% body fat. After you go past 10% body fat, extra calories get more easily stored (since more fat means you carry more estrogen in your body and less testosterone). In addition, the body starts to become insulin resistant as well much easier and that makes further muscle gains harder as well. The key to priming your body is to diet down. By following the right calorie restricted, fat burning diet, you get to lose fat, you optimize your insulin sensitivity and you start to prime your body for future muscle gains. In addition, with the right diet and training program you will still gain muscle (though not as fast as if you were doing an exclusive muscle building diet assuming that you are below 10% body fat).

      Also, by depriving your body of calories for a period of time you put your body in a state that it becomes very “hungry” for nutrients. This is especially true after an extended fat loss period, such as the one prior to a competition. When the body is “hungry” for nutrients, this is the optimal time to do a clean bulk up phase because when you do, most of the calories, if not all, are re-routed towards muscle production! 🙂 So don’t be scared to lose fat my friend as you will still gain some muscle on the process AND you will prime your body for even better gains!

  4. I dont understand how to apply pressure/tension. I have read that part twice but i am still confused on how I can apply tension to my muscles.

    • This is something that you will learn with time as you get to have a better mind to muscle connection. Here is something I want you to check out…it’s an isometric workout I found for you. This workout forces you to create a better mind to muscle connection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA78Dtu2-q4

      Try it out: it is just 90 seconds. That will teach you how tension in the muscle feels.

      Then what I want you to do is to apply the same principle but to the weights. If you lift more slowly using a tempo of 2 seconds up, 1 second contraction and 4 seconds down you will create a mind to muscle connection very easily and you will be able to feel the tension. Let me know how this works for you!
