The concept of super slow lifting for better natural bodybuilding gains is not a new concept. It has been around probably for as long as weight training has been.

It started to become a really popular concept once a Florida-based trainer named Ken Hutchins (author of “Aerobics is Dead” and “Why NOT Aerobics”) patented the name and really started promoting the idea. In addition, I have also seen many books written by Dr. Ellington Darden (writer of over 40 weight training publications such as the “Nautilus Advanced Bodybuilding Book”, “Bigger Muscles in 42 Days”, and “Grow :A 28-Day Crash Course for Getting Huge”) promoting slow lifting as a way to enhance your natural bodybuilding gains. Natural Bodybuilding is Great for Kids as Well!

Natural bodybuilding is great for kids as well! Even though for years there have been myths of how natural bodybuilding can disrupt growth in kids by closing the growth plates and causing injury, a growing amount of recent evidence suggests the exact opposite.  This comes as no surprise to me as I have never read any concluding research on the myth that bodybuilding exercise will stunt growth.

Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness Icon Jack LaLanne Died at the Age of 96

Thanks to my good friend Bill Kemp, I just read the news in the Associated Press that natural bodybuilding and fitness icon Jack LaLanne passed at the age of 96 on January 23.

Who is Jack LaLanne? 

For those of you who don’t know Jack LaLanne, he was one of the pionners of the bodybuilding and fitness industry. Often called the “Godfather of Fitness”, Jack LaLanne was the son of poor immigrant French parents who was so weak when he was young that his doctor advised he stayed home to recover his strength. His concerned mother attended a lecture from nutritionist Paul C. Bragg and that is when Jack’s life changed. When the nutritionist told Jack that he was a walking garbage can due to all the bad sugary foods he consumed, Jack decided to change his life for the better. From that day on he became an avid student of anatomy, bodybuilding and weightlifting.

The Power Of Goal Setting

How To Achieve Bodybuilding Goals

Without goals we are like a ship in the middle of the sea, just drifting away with no sense of direction. It just goes with the flow, so to speak, and if it ever gets anywhere it is just by mere accident. In order to achieve success from your bodybuilding program, your goal should be clearly defined and engrained in the brain. Otherwise, like the boat on the example above, if you get anywhere it will be by mere chance.

Have you ever noticed that some people go to the gym year after year and they always look the same? I have approached people like that and asked them about their goals. Nine out of ten times they don’t have a clear definition of what they want. Therefore, if you don’t know where your target is, how can you hope to shoot at it and get it?

The Formula For Bodybuilding Success

Achieving bodybuilding success has a different meaning for every person. For some bodybuilders success is measured by their ability to win bodybuilding competitions, while for others, bodybuilding success is simply losing a couple of inches off the waist, firming up the muscles and feeling more energetic and positive about life. My personal definition of bodybuilding success, for instance, is to achieve the most symmetrical, defined and balanced physique that I can while building and maintaining a high degree of muscle mass that looks good (which is a matter of personal opinion) on my 5’4″ frame.
